Yes, it does have a big tower-like thing sticking up out back. The game store is located in a building that used to be part of a water-park, and the tower enclosed the stairs that led to a big water slide.
I'm hoping to get another building or two built this month.
Sniper post on top!
Of course I have to leave with a pic of our hapless survivors being swarmed by my zombies outside the store. That's it for now.
Sweet! Nicely done and lovely zed attack at the end!
ReplyDeleteThanks Brummie. It felt good to be building something again!
DeleteThis is fantastic, especially the last picture. I just love the zed on the tower!
ReplyDeleteHow did you do the "Open" sign?
Whiteface / Oliver
Oliver,
DeleteThanks for the comments!
The OPEN sign is easy. I just typed in an image search for "OPEN SIGN" on Google. I found a picture of the neon sign I wanted, saved it. I copied and pasted it into a Word document, because then I can shrink it (I think I shrunk it down to about 10% of it's original size) Print out in color, cut it out and paste it on. When I printed it out I set the quality to highest, that made the colors a little brighter, a little more like they're glowing.
This is a lovely little gem of a model - very nicely done and a lot of great detail.
ReplyDeleteHow long did it take you to make?
Is the zombie on the tower in the last photo a Black Cat Bases ghoul figure?
First off yep, the zombie "Hunter" on the tower is a Black Cat Base Ghoul figure. Nice catch!
DeleteThis model took about 3 months to do, BUT, actual work only took a weekend or two. Because of real work and chores and home stuff this thing sat on the shelf for LONG periods of time. And actual time working on it is really only a couple of hours - but there's LOTS of downtime letting glue dry or letting paint dry, etc. I used to make some Necromunda terrain from scratch, and those took a LOT more time. Using a Plasticviille building and just detailing it out speeds up the process tremendously!
Very nice work!
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you!
DeleteThat's a building that I'd be proud to own. Great work, Mike. There are so many little details on it to admire. My favourite is the sniper's post.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bryan! It was nice to be able to work on something again. Real world work is slowly starting to settle down to manageable levels, so I'm hoping to do a few more buildings and even (GASP!) play a game or two!
DeleteEven though I haven't posted for ages, I still read other blogs, especially yours. Whenever I see your review of figures or one of your buildings, I get fired up to start creating again. I still haven't detailed out an interior of one of these, and for a few of them I ended up just gluing the roof in place. Still, it's on my list to pick one of them and dress up the interior with some of the World Works stuff. Someday!
The sniper's post was an afterthought. I could not figure out what to do with the big ugly tower, so I actually sat outside the real store one day just looking at it and trying to think up things it could be used for in the "real" world. It finally dawned on me that it's the highest point in the surrounding area, and wouldn't that make a great place to snipe from?
Great detailingon a very useful model - i like the zombie attack too
ReplyDeleteThanks! The zombies are my Wargames Factory "Filler" zombies. They're all painted bland grayish with a little greenish and few highlights here and there. They don't have much detail, but it's a great way to fill out a table with a ravening horde. I've used them in an earlier post, showing them attacking another game store that used to be open out here. If you go back far enough you can probably find it.
DeleteI've only had one game of All Things Zombie where I ended up with a huge mass of zombies on the table. I have since learned that using a shotgun in a city at night is a great way to get swarmed by the undead!
That is an excellent model! Very well done. And great pics. Keep up the good work and show us more.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I have two more models at about the 50% stage, so stay tuned!
DeleteBeautiful job on this. Great detailing. Thanks for posting, lots of great inspiration there.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe. The detailing is the fun part for me, because I can set the model aside, then add some little detail as I think about it. Everything doesn't have to be done all at once. And I definitely look to blogs like yours and Vampifan's and others, both for inspiration and to get me fired up to start creating more stuff!
DeleteWow! That is totally amazing. Great work there! Love that last picture!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Vancouver (I know you are in WA), but have you ever been to Imperial Hobbies in Vancouver BC (actually, I think it might be Richmond?) http://www.imperialhobbies.ca/ Its an amazing store, with tons of models, books, and figures.
I haven't been up to Vancouver BC yet, but it's something my wife and I want to do (among a ton of other things) now that the kids are leaving the house. My wife already knows that if we go somewhere and there's a gamestore, we have to stop and at least look. Thanks for the head's up!
DeleteThat looks really really good.
ReplyDeleteThanks Smillie!
DeleteI can only agree, stunning work!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Hopefully I can get a game going at the local gaming store, with a bunch of the models and stuff laid out and get some action photos of a game-in-progress with everthing in one place. Stay tuned!
DeleteBrilliant!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great and I love the last shot with the zombies storming the place!
It is always good to get back into things, and you are of to a great start!
Next...Use it in a game!
Lovely!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Roy was tickled pink to see (if he has).
