Mercy General Hospital

The unpainted hospital.
Today's posting is of a Plasticville O-scale hospital I completed last year.  After I had glued the pieces together I hit the whole thing with a textured spray paint.  It leaves little bumps all over the model and ends up making it look more "beat-up" and worn out (at least to me).

A couple of Horrorclix zombies stumble out the front door.

I made an evacuation sign like the one in Left 4 Dead, "No Mercy", and printed it out .  The green letters are just cut out painted foamcore.

A side entrance.

A 1:48 scale Life-Flight helipcopter has crashed through the roof!

The crashed remains of the helicopter can be seen through the front door.  All that grubby-looking texture came from the textured spray paint, otherwise this whole thing would've been smooth.
Although you can't see it in these pictures, I have some blinking red, yellow and orange diodes inside that make the hospital look like it's on fire.  It shows up good in real life, not so good in photos.

Another side door...looks like things got exciting here
I added a little extra detail to the interior areas that you could see.

The hospital scales well with 28mm figures (height), but seems awful small as far as width and depth go.  That's a compromise you have to make with O-scale structures.  If this was really going to be as big as a hospital, scale-wise, it would take up the entire gaming table and then some.  If it bothers you just think of it as an Outpatient Clinic.   Enjoy!

"GRAAAIINNNNS!.....GRAAAIINNNS!....."

I finished this little herd about a year ago.  I took an exacto blade to some plastic O-scale cows, added some green stuff and bits from some Warhammer horse skeletons, and voila!  Bovine zombies!

But they've been (un)living without a home all this time, so I finally picked up a Plasticville barn.

The unpainted barn

I used red, white, black and silver craft paint to spruce it up.  I then used Army Quickshade and some dark chalks to spruce it back down.  I ended up with the following:

If you've ever driven on the interstate highways in the U.S. in and around the state of Tennessee, then you've seen these barns with the "ROCK CITY" ads on them.  It's a part of Americana that started back in the twenties or thirties (I think).  Just Google SEE ROCK CITY and you'll get all the info you need to understand what I'm talking about.  I lived for a year near Chattanooga, Tennessee, so I saw quite of few of these old barns, and obviously the image has stuck in my mind.
Anyway, my little undead bovine herd has a place to call home now.  By the way, I'm working on adding a chicken coop to my little farm, so that I have a place to house these guys:

"Chicken in the breadpan pickin' out dough internal organs...  Skip to the Lou my Darlin'!"

That's it for now.

Boomer Burgers - Bursting with flavor!

I just finished this piece of terrain a couple of days ago.  The building is an O-scale diner from K-Line, I think.  (The Plasticville diner would work just as well).  I was too lazy to cut out letters from foamcore, but was lucky enough to find some wooden letters at a local craft store.  The idea of a "Boomer Burgers" joint was something I've been thinking about for about two years now; I just finally got around to putting all the pieces together.

The diner was painted with blue and silver craft paints, then hit with Army Painter medium shade and some black chalk to make it weathered and wore out.

One of the reasons it took so long to get this thing together is because I had to find time (and inspiration) to put together the Boomer Big Boy.  For those who don't quite get the reference, Shoney's Big Boy is a restaurant chain throughout the Eastern U.S.   Their stores all have a big plastic "Big Boy" out front, it's somewhat of an iconic feature.  Being a big fan of the Left 4 Dead video game, it wasn't too big of a leap (at least for me) to mash the two together into something slightly absurd.

Here's what a real Big Boy looks like

Here's my finished "Boomer Big Boy"  I started with a Warhammer Ogre body.  I used green stuff to sculpt a burger, a belly and pants, and the spiffy Big Boy hair.  And of course some spewing Boomer Bile.

Well all this posting has made me hungry, so I'm going out for a burger.  Enjoy!

Police Station Safe House

This is a Plasticville O Scale police station that I decided to turn into a safe-house.

I used plasticard to create a Left 4 Dead type safe house door.  Small wooden sticks from a craft store help seal up the windows.

More detailing showing attempts to barricade the windows.  I like adding a broken board or two, and a little blood; it shows that an attack occurred here.  It helps set that Zommbie Apocalypse mood.

I need to add a lot more posters, flyers, graffiti and general wall-junk to the back wall.  I'll get to it sometime!
But for now I'm calling this one good!

Fortified Apartment Building

This is a Plasticville O-scale apartment building that I use in our ATZ (All Things Zombie) games.  I don't usually put this much detail into a model but I just started fiddling with it and kept going because I was having fun.  O-scale seems to work pretty good with 28mm miniatures.  The figures in the photo above look a little large because of the angle I took the picture.

The picture below gives you a better sense of how the figures compare to the building, scale-wise.
Those yellow biohazard-suited come from Copplestone, and you can see they match pretty well.

This is what the model looks like unpainted.  It's actually not too bad as is.
That's pretty much it for now.  I'm a somewhat sporadic poster, but I'll try to get a few things up as I dig them out, along with some of the new things I'm working on.

Work in Progress

Hello there! Don't feel bad if you're somewhat underwhelmed looking at this. I am taking the first tentative steps at posting on the web. This site will focus on post-apocalyptic miniatures gaming. Things like painting miniatures, making terrain, and hopefully posting a few batreps. I'm of fan of Two Hour Wargames' All Things Zombie ruleset, so expect to see items related to that in the future.

Well that's it for now. I'm going to see if I have any eye-candy ready that I can post soon.
